[June 2002] "My health is vastly improved and now I get back to playing a lot of clubs and recording once again. Tom Byars, myself and the band have written 12-20 new original songs and the band we are in is called OUT OF THE FIRE" (Bruce Joyner, june 2002)

[March 2002] "We hope to be shopping for a record label in the next few months." (Tom Byars, march 2002)

[Sept. 2003] "I played with bruce and Tom last saturday. the material is great. the recordings will be hot." (Kelly Morse, guitar)

The band was initiated back in 1984 by Tom Byars. In 1983 Tom Byars engineered Bruce's Pantations's "Slave of Emotion" LP. In 1986, Bruce Joyner contributed producing OOTF recordings, with first EP and LP, co-writing 2 tunes and singing. In 1987, Tom Byars coproduces Bruce's "Hot Georgia Nights" with OOTF members Tom Byars on guitar, background vocals / Pete Nalda on keyboards / Marco Fox on bass.
In 1991, Tom Byars and new OOTF bassist John Jones recorded Science Fiction (on Abus Dangereux CD) and Bruce's "Sir Real" issued on New Rose in 1992, produced by Tom Byars.

Rekindling The FireOut Of The Fire 2002
Eighties band rises from the ashes

Tom Byars (ex-Cyclone Mack) is back in action with Out Of The Fire, a band he originally formed back in 1984 with Bruce Joyner of the LA punk band The Unknowns (circa late 70s/early 80s). Back in the day, the band worked with R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck, who produced some of their material (Buck had actually played in a band with Byars and Joyner before those two formed Out of the Fire). In 1990, bassist John Jones joined the band but shortly thereafter, due to Joyner's health problems, Out of the Fire had to take an indefinite hiatus. Now the band is back in action and with two new members, accordion player Mandy Zee and drummer Artie Denman. The band is currently based in Mt.Holly and, according to Byars, they'll head to New York this summer to record with producer Don Fleming (Alice Cooper, Sonic Youth). They'll be making an appearance in town, however, before the trip: Look for them on Friday, May 31, at 23 Studio/Pat's Tavern.

Out Of The Fire 19861986 : Bruce Joyner produces the first EP and first LP of a L.A. band : Out Of The Fire [issued on Heliotrope Records], the band of Tom "Possum" Byars who participated to several Bruce Joyner's records, Andrew Bandrowski (lead guitar), Julie Patchouli (bass, ex-Pandoras), Pete Nalda (keyboards), Ray Stange (drums), John Jones (keyboards), alternative line-up also included Marko Fox (bass) and Danielle Elliott (drums). Bruce Joyner also co-signed song "Take it on a ride".
