|Well, it actually happened! They finally made it back to Glasgow
after 13 years.
The whole thing seemed to be kept quiet, as the venue wouldn't confirm or deny if they were actually going to come over or not. It was part of an evening called The Sonic Mook Experiment, which was being held in the CCA (Centre Contemporary Arts), which has just had £10 million spent on it, and this was the opening night.
There were various "events" happening throughout the building, like Jarvis Cocker and some other arsehole DJ'ing, and loads of other guest appearances of other arseholes, so the place was full of pretentious arty wankers.
Suicide were playing in a room upstairs that was supposed to have a maximum of 160 people in it. They came on about 12 o'clock, and the place was fuckin' boiling. We couldn't even get a drink as there were too many people at the bar,and when we got in we were told they were onstage in 10 mins. The bastards were also counting the number of people going in and out of the room, and eventually they stopped letting people in. They didn't come on till 45 mins later!!
The PA for the gig was atrocious,it was just like a vocal PA, which was OK for the DJ's on before the band, but it lacked any balls.
They were onstage for 45 mins, and played either 6 or 7 songs, amongst which were HARLEM, GHOST RIDER, & I SURRENDER.
The sound was bad for the first 15-20 mins, and I heard that people were up shouting at the sound guy.
There were visuals being projected onto the screens behind the band, including the band playing on stage at the time. The vocals were very muffled in the mix at first, but it got better towards the 2nd half of the gig.
I enjoyed it , but I've never seen such a bunch of wankers as the crowd that was there. I heard people slagging them off during the gig, so what the fuck were they doing there in the first place, and also preventing other people from getting in who actually wanted to see them.
I met them after the gig , and they were saying they are recording a new album in Jan '02,which should be out around April hopefully, and they said they would come back and do a "proper" gig, hopefully with a decent PA this time.
