Martin Rev
|
First Solo LP, practically at the same time as the first "rockabilly" one by Alan Vega (the cover mentions the year 1979, while 1980 appears on the disc). It's 'electronic' music, calm but not serene. Martin Rev 'sings' only on one track: " Baby O Baby ".

The first 6 tracks are taken from his very first solo LP (1980, Lust/Unlust). As for the others LPs, the art work for the cover was made by Marev.

Re-issued (available Jan.2007) with 3 bonus tracks The new re-issue of "Cheyenne" features 3 bonus tracks that are out of this world. Can you tell us a little about them? REV: The first bonus track Pony, was written on a western theme I was playing with while doing some tracks with Charles Ball, who produced my first Album on his Lust/Unlust Records. We had run into each other years after that album was made, and he wanted me to go back into the studio with him and just record. We did a bunch of stuff, some of which came out on the CD version of that first album. Durango was played in one take at Ric's studio while working on Suicide's Why B Blue album. It was totally improvised off of the basic riff. Coyote was sometlhing I cut while recording tracks on my own in a studio in NY called Czarist Productions. It's from the same sessions that produced Little Rock and Wings of the Wind What equipment did you use recording the "cheyenne" album? REV: Equiptment used included the Prophet 5, Roland Compu Rythm CR 78, and a Kurzweil module on some tracks like Coyote and Wings. |

See Me Ridin'
|
Very good LP, that some critics even qualified as minimalist pop power (what a program!). The sound of the synthetizers -electronics but not techno -, the melodies, his manner of singing / speaking, gives him kind of eccentric / forwarded image, especially when you remember the wall of sound of Suicide. Roir said about this disc: "When you listen to Martin Rev's new "See Me Ridin'" think: David Lynch, Buddy Holly, Chet Baker, Phil Spector, Bubble Gum Rock, Teen Rock, Pop Rock, Power Pop, Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, Mr. Rogers, Dr. Suess, Retro-Nuevo, Guided By Voices, Sebadoh, Legendary Pink Dots!". I would also evoque Tati, another nice wacky guy.
All compositions written & performed by Martin Rev - track 7 written by Martin Rev and
Marev. Who's that mysterious Marev who's also credited as cover painter? |

Strangeworld

13 new tracks and the same cool shades : "13 gems of minimalistic, trash and disillusioned electronic pop music. Rev's voice whispers, hardly rash, entrenching in diffusing and delays." (Lluis González from magazine Mondo Sonoro)
All music written, produced and performed by Martin Rev / Ramblin' co-written by Marev. Recorded
at Amphion Studios NYC. |
